Car Bomb Alert.
Police in the early hours of the morning on Saturday cordoned off part of the port area of Ibiza after finding a stolen car parked in the area. The car had false registration plates & appeared to have wires sticking out of the engine area. Also a police explosives sniffer dog apparently acted in a strange manner when it was sent in to sniff around the car. This led the police to believe it could be a car bomb planted in the area by ETA terrorists especially as Jaime Matas, the President of the Balearic Government & his Cabinet had passed through the port area on an official visit a few hours earlier & were due to leave by boat back to Palma later the next day. In response they evacuated the area & carried out 2 controlled explosions to remove any possible risk before taking the vehicle away for further examination. Later checks also revealed that the car belonged to a German resident in Palma who had reported the vehicle, a red Volkswagan Golf, as being stolen.
